The Preparing for Advent Workshop provides parishioners and visitors with an opportunity to enter the Advent season with mindfulness, preparation, and spiritual reflection. This day-long event includes guided meditations, workshops, and discussions aimed at understanding the meaning of Advent in Orthodox Catholic tradition.
The program begins at 10:00 AM with an introduction to the Advent season, explaining its theological significance, historical context, and spiritual purpose. Clergy will discuss how Advent serves as a period of anticipation, reflection, and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity.
From 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, participants will engage in a workshop on personal and family spiritual preparation. Activities will include journaling exercises, prayer guides, and discussions on incorporating fasting, reflection, and acts of service into daily life. Attendees will learn practical ways to cultivate awareness, patience, and devotion throughout the Advent season.
A light lunch will be provided at 12:30 PM, followed by an afternoon session focused on communal reflection and preparation. From 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, participants will take part in group activities, including creating Advent prayer spaces, collaborative reflections, and discussions on the symbolic elements of Advent, such as candles, icons, and liturgical colors. These activities encourage collaboration, spiritual contemplation, and meaningful engagement with tradition.
The workshop concludes with a brief closing service at 3:00 PM, featuring prayers, hymns, and a guided reflection on the lessons learned during the day. Participants will leave with practical tools, spiritual insights, and a sense of community as they begin the Advent season.
This event embodies the parish’s mission of spiritual education, engagement, and preparation, offering parishioners a rich, reflective, and communal experience that deepens faith and enhances participation in Orthodox Catholic traditions.
