The Orthodox Music and Chant Workshop is an immersive, hands-on event designed to introduce participants to the rich tradition of Orthodox liturgical music. Music has always played a central role in Orthodox worship, enhancing prayer, reflection, and the communal experience. This workshop offers an in-depth exploration of hymns, chants, and the historical context of Orthodox music.

The program begins at 2:00 PM with an introduction to the role of music in Orthodox Catholic worship. Parish musicians and clergy will explain how hymns and chants are integrated into services, their spiritual significance, and their historical development. Participants will learn how music serves as both a form of prayer and a method of theological expression, conveying spiritual truths and inspiring devotion.

At 2:45 PM, attendees will begin practical exercises, learning to read basic musical notation used in Orthodox chants. Participants will practice vocal techniques, harmony, and rhythm under the guidance of experienced choir members. The session will emphasize collaboration, listening skills, and attention to detail, reflecting the communal nature of liturgical music.

A short break will be provided at 4:00 PM, followed by a session focused on performance practice. Participants will learn how to participate confidently in a choir, understand the roles of different voices, and apply techniques for enhancing clarity and expression in group singing. The workshop will also include discussion on the spiritual and emotional impact of music, and how it can be integrated into personal prayer and meditation.

At 5:30 PM, the workshop will culminate in a final group practice, combining learned techniques and performing a series of traditional Orthodox hymns and chants. This collaborative performance allows participants to experience the full richness of Orthodox liturgical music and its communal power.

The workshop concludes at 6:00 PM with a reflection session, during which participants can share their experiences, ask questions, and receive guidance on continuing their musical and spiritual practice. The Orthodox Music and Chant Workshop is open to all parishioners, including those with no prior musical experience. It exemplifies the parish’s commitment to preserving and sharing the cultural and spiritual heritage of Orthodox Catholic worship.
